Press Conference for the Brazil Festival, MIA Park 6-8 Nov, 2014

Today, Thursday 6th Nov, 2014 the official Press Conference was held for the Brazil Festival, which will take place at MIA Park from 6-8 Nov, 2014.

In attendance were: Mr. Ahmed Abdulqader Al-Hamad (Executive Director Upstream, QPI), Mrs. Viviane Rios Balbino (Charge D’Affaires, Brazilian Embassy in Doha), Mr. Philip Jon Lawrie (QM Chief Commercial Officer) and Mr. Rob Sherwin (General Manager Corporate Affairs & Deputy – Country Chairman Qatar Shell).

The 2-day Brazil Festival at MIA Park is part of a week-long series of events that showcases the best of Brazilian creativity and energy here in Doha, Qatar and forms an important part of the Qatar Brazil 2014 Year of Culture.

At the festival one can see performances by the 10-piece Samba band, Chula Sao Braz, which hails from Salvador de Bahia in the northeast of Brazil while feasting on tasty Brazilian-style food from Trader Vics, Rodizio and MIA Café. There will also be musical performances from Doha Jazz.

There are open air film screenings each night of the Festival (Rio, Rio 2 and Amazonia), Graffiti Workshops from Speto, a well-known Brazilian artist, who will be designing two special murals; one with help from the public, samba drumming workshops, carnival mask making, Capoeira demonstrations and workshops, Brazilian Story Telling sessions and face painting. Traditional Brazilian crafts will also be available to purchase, such as colourful hammocks, hand woven baskets and beaded necklaces.

In addition, there will be Art and Photography exhibitions on display, such as “Qatar Brazil: A Journey from the Amazon to the Desert”, which showcases works from Brazilian and Qatari exchange trip students. There is also the “Create and Inspire 2014” exhibition, which displays the works of young artists from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the U.A.E. and the U.K. as part of the Qatar Brazil 2014 Year of Culture Initiative and which is funded by the Crossway Foundation.
