A first-of-its-kind museum concept is opening its doors in Doha this year!

Located in the heart of the West Bay at the premises of The Gate Mall, the Museum of Illusions (MOI) is designed to amuse, amaze and stimulate the senses while also offering exhibits based on science, mathematics, biology and psychology.

Unlike more 'classical' museums, visitors to the MOI will be encouraged to interact with the exhibits and take as many photos as they can during their visual, sensory and educational adventure.

And because conventional museum rules don’t apply inside, you have all the liberty to laugh, run and even whoop your way through the exhibits.

Moreover, MOI boasts a line-up of rare-to-find physical and optical illusions and a playroom containing didactic games and puzzles. This way, visitors are openly encouraged to deviate from traditional museum etiquettes.

The Doha venue is set to feature the so-called Vortex Tunnel, a rotating cylinder that tricks the brain into thinking the ground under their feet is shifting, as well as the Ames Room, where guests shrink or grow depending on their position in the exhibit.

Talking to Executive Director Cristina El Watidy, she shared that the MOI exhibits have been carefully selected to ensure the widest possible appeal to the city's uniquely cosmopolitan residents and international tourists.

She added:

"We pride ourselves on being a destination for all ages and this is reflected in the diversity of exhibits and the overall experience.’’

With these, MOI is indeed the perfect and most exciting place for all generations to enjoy—despite not being fully open yet. Amusing and awesome tricks will teach you about vision, perception, the human brain and science so it will be easier to perceive why your eyes see things which your brain cannot understand.

"The human brain is an incredibly complex computer that perceives and interprets reality through an elaborate process of gathering information from each of our senses. When engaging with our illusions, the mind will combine some details and exclude others to create a sensory experience that defies logic. It's always incredible seeing the universal human response to Museum of Illusions exhibits - it's the same reactions all over the world".

And just like any other museum, the MOI also comes with a dedicated gift shop where you can find illusory delights including a famous wooden game called 'Dilemma', mini optical illusions, 3D lighting, and other knickknacks.

One of the fastest growing education and entertainment places around the world, the original concept of MOI was launched in Zagreb, Croatia in 2015. Over the years, it has offered numerous interactive, immersive, and fun experiences for children, parents, couples, etc.

Tickets cost QAR75 for adults and QAR50 for children.
