Msheireb Downtown Doha (MDD), the flagship project of Msheireb Properties, will feature a number of outlets including a mall, designed to transform the area into an “unparalleled retail, leisure and entertainment hub”, a spokesperson for the development said yesterday. The Galleria mall will comprise about 100 stores set across four levels of shopping and entertainment space. Spanning approximately 48,000 square metres of gross leasable space, the Galleria forms a major part of the retail offering at Msheireb Downtown Doha. According to an earlier report, the first phase (Phase 1A) of MDD, the QR20bn regeneration project spread across a 31-hectare site in the heart of Doha, is scheduled to be completed this year. The Galleria will comprise an anchor supermarket on the lower ground floor, multi- and a six-screen cinema. The mall will also feature dedicated entertainment zone for children, involving both educational and physical activities. In addition to the Galleria, the area features a variety of other retail offerings which will not only attract visitors and tourists, but will also serve the thriving community which will soon be living and working in Msheireb Downtown Doha. Sikkat al-Wadi, the development’s largest pedestrian street, running the entire length of Downtown Doha, will also provide a wide range of shopping options, including flagship stores in addition to fashion boutiques, restaurants and cafes. “What sets the project’s retail offering apart from traditional malls is that it will integrate well-known international brands with smaller local brands or boutiques which will provide an authentic town centre atmosphere whilst keeping alive unique Qatari characteristics, traditions and heritage,” said Abdulla Hassan al-Mehshadi, chief executive officer at Msheireb Properties. “In this way we hope to offer a more personal and appealing shopping experience than the massive shopping malls that are everywhere across the Gulf,” al-Mehshadi added. Unique to the Msheireb development is its blend of casual and high-street shopping, stylish plazas and community spaces. It will host the region’s largest shaded open-air square, Al Baraha, a family destination with restaurants and cafes featuring events and large-scale shows, and special cooling devices known as “cool pools” to refresh visitors at the hottest times of the year. Pedestrian-friendly access from the main streets of the city and an underpass connection to Souk Waqif will further enhance the shopping proposition. Complementing this array of exceptional retail offerings will be the project’s efficiently-planned infrastructure and transport system. Host to Qatar’s largest metro station, Msheireb has an integrated road network connecting downtown to the rest of the city. Retail will greatly benefit from parking provisions within three to five underground basement levels, including a dedicated service corridor for deliveries. State-of-the-art IT infrastructure will enhance efficiency and the retail experience for shoppers and tenants alike. Msheireb Properties is a real estate company and a subsidiary of Qatar Foundation. The company was established as a commercial venture to support the Foundation’s aims as well as the realisation of Qatar’s 2030 Vision. http://www.gulf-times.com/qatar/178/details/372619/msheireb-downtown-promises-a-different-shopping-experience
