Ministry of Interior Lines up Qatar National Day Events for Expats in Four Venues

AS part of Qatar National Day celebrations, the Ministry of Interior and the QND Celebrations Organizing Committee organize a line-up of associated events on 17th and 18th December, that will be held in collaboration with expatriate communities, companies and schools.

This was announced by Brigadier Abdullah Khalifa Al Muftah, Director of the Public Relations Department at a press conference held at Civil Defence Officers’ Club on Sunday 13 December. The press conference was also attended by Capt. Nasser al Suwaidi, Vice Chairman of QND Celebrations Security Committee and Mr. Muhammad bin Ajyan, Chairman of Ibin Ajayan Trading Group along with Asian Expatriate community leaders, school representatives and media persons.

Venues and Events:

A range of cultural events, art competitions and sports championships will be organized in Asian Town (Industrial Area), Wakra Sports Stadium, Rayyan Sports Club and Barwa Workers’ Recreation Complex in Al Khor.

Asian Town (Industrial Area):

Indian and Sri Lankan community teams will showcase their cultural and musical performances in Industrial Area at Asian Town amphitheater. Sanskriti, Bangiya Parishad Qatar, PSV, MMQ, KDACA, Thirumuttam Qatar, INCAS, Punjabi Association, QTS, TRAQ, Telugu Kalasamiti, NITCAA Qatar, TJSV, Bharathi, Mahinder’s Bhangra are some of the organizations to compete in events at Asian Town. This venue will host the art competitions and cultural shows of students of MES Indian School, Pak Shama, Stafford Sri Lankan School, Birla Public School, Doha Modern Indian School and Bright Future School as well.

The events will start at 4 o’clock in the evening of Thursday 17th December till 8 pm. The programme will restart on Friday 18 December at 8.00 am till 10.00 pm with break for prayers and lunch.

Qawwali

The Asian Town amphitheater will witness a mega Qawwali programme on 17th December evening from 8-12 pm as part of the Qatar national day celebration. The Qawwali songs will be presented by the renowned Sabri brothers from Rajasthan India. This event is sponsored by Satco International Group.

Wakra Sports Club:

The events of Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities along with the students of PEC School, Bangladesh School, Bhavans Public School, TNG, DPS MIS and Noble International School will be hosted at Wakra Sports Club Indoor Stadium.

Pak Community Events

The Wakra open stadium will host wide variety of cultural fiesta by famous artists from Lahore and Peshawar. Khalid Malik, Waheed Achakzai, Nelo, Afshan Zaibi, Hina Asif, Wafa Afghanistan, Rahim Master, Hani Albila, Saleem Abila, Omar Gul and Khalida Yasmin are among the performers from Pakistan. The mega event will start at 5 pm on Thursday 17 December to 11.00 pm. The students performances and the cultural shows will continue on Friday from 8.00am – 10.00 pm with breaks for prayers and lunch.

Rayyan Sports Club Indoor Stadium:

The Filipino Indonesian and Malaysian community teams will showcase their cultural fiesta at Rayyan Sports club Indoor Stadium along with the students of the Philippines School Doha, Philippines International School Qatar, Ideal Indian School, Shanti Niketan School and Scholars International School, where they will be displaying their talents in cultural and musical performances. The events will start here at 8.00 am on Friday 18 December and will continue till 10.00pm with breaks for prayers and lunch.

Barwa Workers Recreation Complex (Al Khor):

The Barwa Workers Recreation Complex in Al Khor will host the traditional, cultural and folklore shows and art competitions of Nepalese expats and Al Khor community. The 2day events will start on Thursday 17 December at 4.00pm till 10.00 pm and will continue on Friday from 8.00 am till 10.00 pm with breaks for prayer and lunch.

The cultural fiesta in each of the four venues will start with the Qatar National Anthem at 8am followed by a colorful parade by all participating schools , community and company teams in each venue.

Sports Activities:

Along with cultural events, different sports championships will be held between communities, company and school teams in four venues. Asian Town, Wakra Sports Club, Rayyan Sports Club, Barwa Recreation Complex in Al Khor will host football championship, tug of war competition and running race. Besides that Al Khor Barwa Recreation Complex will host cricket, volleyball and basketball championships while Rayyan Sports Club will host basketball as well.

Prizes:

The participating schools, community teams will compete in different cultural activities including, Qatar national day parade, thematic show, thematic song in addition to sports items whereas the winners with first, second and third places will be awarded cash prizes in all arts and sports competitions in four venues. The overall champions from school, community and company teams will be awarded special trophies.

Twenty20 Cricket Match between Pakistan Eleven & Qatar Eleven

The Asian Town Cricket Stadium will host a mega T20 cricket tournament between Pakistan Eleven and Qatar Eleven. The international players of Pakistan cricket team along with some veterans will participate in the championship.

Salman Butt, Kamran Akmal, Adnan Akmal, Fuwad Alam, Aizaz Cheema, Thofeeq Umer,R ana Naveed, Ehsan Adil, Mohammed Asif, Saeed Ajmal ,Imran Farhat are among the Pakistan Team whereas the Qatar National Team includes Iqbal Chawdory, Sarjeel Khan, Nazer Jamsheed, Rihil Ali, Sehbas Malik, Tamoor, Kamran Khan, Azim Ali, Saad Naseem, Mohammed Rislan, Irshad Umer, Sunet, Shereef and Firoz.

The tournament will be held at Friday evening 18 December. The entry is free for all.
