Henry Cavill has shocked Superman fans worldwide by announcing that he is stepping down from the role of Superman to be the next James Bond.

"James Bond 25" is a planned sequel in the long-running action-spy series. Henry Cavill, who missed out on the role previously, expressed his enthusiasm over replacing Daniel Craig as the newest James Bond with the latter deciding to exit future projects. Director Sam Mendes admitted that Craig has said goodbye to his role at the end of "Spectre".

According to Entertainment Weekly, Cavill expressed his enthusiasm at being the next James Bond. He said, "I'm a huge fan of the series. We all went to see "Spectre" when we were shooting "Batman v Superman". I simply love the theme tune, the tropes and the mythology. I love the whole thing... It's an extraordinary opportunity."

As for the Superman fans he leaves behind? "Supes will always be close to my heart," said the British actor. "But this is James Bond we're talking about. How could I pass up this opportunity? I'm sure Superman fans will understand."

With the fate of Superman unknown in the DC Universe of films moving forward, the Man of Steel may not even appear in the upcoming "Justice League" movie now that Cavill has stepped away from the role.
