‘Energy World - Qatar 2015’ Inspires Over 7,000 People to Experience Science During Opening Weekend

‘Energy World – Qatar 2015’ welcomed more than7,000 visitors at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre during its opening weekend. The ten-day interactive educational experience takes people of all ages on a journey into Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). The event features a lively mix of physical and digital exhibits, workshops and science shows encouraging everyone to ‘explore make and learn.’

‘Energy World - Qatar 2015’ will run until 28 November, with free tickets available by registering online at www.energyworldqatar.com.

‘Energy World – Qatar 2015’ is brought to Qatar by long-term partnersQatar Petroleum and Qatar Shell, in association with the Qatar Tourism Authority, with the vision of creating a positive impact in Qatar, and to support the human development and environmental pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030.

Commenting on her visit to ‘Energy World – Qatar 2015’, Marie King, the Year 6 class teacher at the Al Khor International School, said: “We have really enjoyed our trip to ‘Energy World – Qatar’ and both teachers and students were really impressed with the event. The level of interactivity is perfect because it requires students to read, listen, learn and participate, which ties in seamlessly with our science curriculum. Our visit has complemented everything students are currently learning in class.”

At ‘Energy World – Qatar 2015’ visitors, parents, students and children will enjoy a hands-on experience that will create a greater awareness of energy and its challenges, and will stimulate creative thinking and innovation amongst the participants to find solutions to meet those challenges.

Dana Zahra, a student at Qatar Academy, added: “I really enjoyed the amount of activities on display. My favourite activity was the ‘Energy Generators’, it was so much fun. The whole event has showed me that STEM subjects are a really important part of supporting the future of Qatar.”

‘Energy World – Qatar 2015’ aims to inspire students in Qatar to want to learn more and pursue STEM subjects in higher education. These four subjects are fundamental to Qatar’s educational vision to build a prosperous future for the country. The event challenges visitors with fun STEM-themed activities and innovative questions along an interactive journey comprising various digital exhibits. Upon answering the final question, visitors will step up to the screen to find out what type of innovator they are - Designer, Engineer, Connector, Inventor or Adventurer!

Lamya Al-Kubaisi, a student at the English Modern School, said: “I’ve had so much fun at ‘Energy World – Qatar’. The exhibits at this event showed me how science works and what energy looks like, and what it can actually do. The activities are really interactive and fun, and I know my family and friends will definitely enjoy this event, I’m going to tell them all about it when I get home!”

‘Energy World – Qatar 2015’ has partnered with the Supreme Education Council and has engaged teachers representing 11,000 students from 130 schools across Qatar to take part in the school programme which facilitates exclusive access to the event. There is no charge for schools, or members of the public to attend ‘Energy World – Qatar 2015’.

Samuel Spencer, a design technology teacher at the New British Academy, added: “’Energy World – Qatar 2015’ ties in really well to the curriculum. I think all teachers will definitely be taking a bit of inspiration home with them to make their respective subjects more interactive and fun. Learning through play is a really important educational concept, and you can really see the children engaging with science and technology.”
