The Eid al-Fitr celebrations will kick off on Friday in Qatar with a number of entertainment shows and sport activities organised by Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) and its public and private sector partners.
The festival offers a myriad of family entertainment shows taking place in Qatar’s shopping malls between 4pm and 10pm. These include mime shows, the “Rene Magritte” show, the “Babylon Joe” show and a performance by the Paper Magic Artist, in addition to other events inspired by Qatari heritage.
Exclusive shows will also be staged in many shopping malls around Qatar including Peter Pan (City Center Doha), Circus Canada (Al Khor Mall), Jungle Book (Lagoona Mall), Pinocchio (Hyatt Plaza), The Little Prince (Dar Al Salam Mall) and Meet the Nicktoons (Ezdan Mall).
Residents will have the opportunity to watch two theatrical performances. First is the family-friendly musical “Elmo Makes Music” from the famous Sesame Street show, which will be held at Qatar National Convention Centre from July 18 to 22 between 5pm and 8pm. Tickets can be purchased at Virgin Megastores or through Q-tickets.com.
The play follows the story of Elmo and his friends as they start a new band and discover musical instruments they never knew existed.
Also taking centre-stage is the locally produced dramatic comedy entitled “Bishowish” (Take it Easy), which will be presented on stage at Katara – the Cultural Village from July 18 to 27 with two showings a night (7pm and 9pm).
The play, which was written by Teyseer Abdullah and directed by Saad Burshed, features 16 Qatari and Arab stars.
Celebrations will include daily musical performances in Souq Waqif held in partnership with Sout Al Rayyan, as well as live entertainment at Katara starting at 7.30pm and culminating in a fireworks spectacle.
Families can enjoy a wide array of entertainment options on offer at The Pearl-Qatar between 5pm and 8pm, at the Al Dosari Zoo and Game Reserve starting from the second day of Eid, and at Aqua Park between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
Sheikh Faisal Museum will offer tours from 9am to 5pm and horse riding sessions will be available to visitors in Al-Samriya Equesterian Academy from 8am to 9am and again from 4pm to 5pm.
QTA, in collaboration with its partners, will also welcome visitors arriving in Qatar through Hamad International Airport (HIA).
QTA representatives will distribute Eid al-Fitr festival brochures, including detailed event timings and locations, in addition to Eid gifts, aimed at promoting the festival and sharing the Eid spirit.
In addition, Eid al-Fitr activity leaflets will be available at Abu Samra border crossing. An information desk has also been set up at HIA and shopping malls, giving visitors access to information and responses to inquiries about the festival and activities available in Qatar throughout Eid. Up-to-date information can also be found on www.eidinqatar.qa.
QTA seeks to diversify Qatar’s tourism offerings through building a sustainable calendar of festivals and visitor attractions.
The Eid al-Fitr Festival is considered one of the most important annual events, reinforcing Qatar’s position as a preferred family tourist destination within the GCC.
The festive season will continue with the Qatar Summer Festival 2015, which is expected to attract a large number of visitors with a range of new attractions, special hotel rates, cultural events and special offers on renowned brands lined up for this year.
