The first Doha International Flowers and Garden Exhibition opens on Thursday at Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park.

The Ambassador of the Netherlands, Yvette van Eechoud, will speak on flowers and international relations during the official opening of the three-day event.

The Dutch embassy, in collaboration with Al Maktab Al Qatari Al Hollandi, Toscana Landscaping and KLM airlines, will have a Dutch corner in the exhibition to display Dutch floriculture and horticulture businesses. The embassy has chosen the theme of its displays based on famous Vincent van Gogh floral paintings.

The famous painter has amazing artwork around flowers and landscapes such as the Sun flower painting, the Irises, and the Almond blossom and 2015 will mark the 125th memorial year since his death.

Holland is the world’s leading supplier of flowers, plants and trees. The Dutch horticulture sector is a global trendsetter and international market leader in flowers, plants and bulbs. It is No. 3 exporter in nutritional horticulture products.

There will be exciting events and competitions for the public as an opportunity for all to get to know the Netherlands more.

A colouring competition for kids as well as an opportunity to participate in a raffle with amazing gifts will also be held.
