Most Qatar residents will be flying to Dubai and London to enjoy summer vacation.
Dubai and London have emerged as the top destinations for people in Qatar, according to travel agents.
They say both cities account for about 60 percent of total bookings.
Thailand, France, Egypt, Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Hong Kong are other favourite destinations for Qatar residents.
For majority of Qataris, London is the favourite place to enjoy while Dubai is the top destination for expats.
Finances play a crucial role in the selection of destinations, say industry experts.
“Dubai is the most sought-after destination for most expats in Qatar. There are many reasons for Dubai to be a favourite for them. Compared to other countries, it is comparatively cheaper to go to Dubai due to its vicinity to Qatar.
“Another factor which attracts expats to Dubai is the list of attractions it has for tourists. From man-made wonders to natural attractions, Dubai has something for every tourist — children, youth, middle aged or senior citizens,” said Dennis Victor, General Manager, Alwatany Travels.
A return air trip to Dubai in economy class costs around QR750 while it comes to about QR4,500 if a person books a return trip to any European city.
“For Qatari citizens, London is one of the most favourite places to visit on holidays or perhaps for the joy of travel in first or business class or simply a private jet. Qataris seem to love London for what it can offer and because they have friends, relatives, and possible business and investments there,” said Victor.
Vacation season is set to begin in Qatar as most schools close at the end of June or early July and remain shut until August-end.
“Qataris love to go to Europe and London is their favourite destination. Expats choose Dubai or their country for summer vacation,” said Osman bin Sayeed, Sales Manager, Al Qayed Travel & Tours.
Industry experts say Qataris are exploring new countries to see something new. Thailand, Vietnam, Georgia and Belarus are destinations in which Qataris have begun to take interest.
“Expats do not want to overspend on vacations and select destinations which are comparatively cheaper to stay. On the other hand, Qataris do not care much about expenses,” said a senior official of a travel agency.
