The big cinematic debate continues over which is the best Superhero Universe! I am no expert when it comes to the comics, but in terms of the cinematic Universe I, along with many of you, have my favourites.

DC was always the more popular of the two until the recent 2008 revamp of the Marvel movies, and throughout the time of motion pictures, our favourite DC heroes have evolved on the big screen. Christopher Reeve’s 1978 Superman was the hero many grew up with, and the computer in Superman 3 still gives some adults nightmares. The recent incarnation of the Man of Steel keeps to the original character, with maybe a little more human imperfections than we are used to in the previous “All American”versions of the character.

Batman is the other of DC's favourites, and whichever version you enjoyed the most, from Michael Keaton’s Gothic version that closely follows the original comic version, to Christopher Nolen’s Dark Knight Trilogy with a truer, more gritty crime drama feel. Recently we enjoyed Ben Affleck brooding brawler in DC's newest incarnation in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. We all have a favourite version of Batman as well as our favourite gadget and undoubtedly The Batmobile itself.

Marvel’s Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk movies in 2008 have sparked the ever expanding Marvel Universe we know today. And recently we have seen this universe grow further with Guardians of the Galaxy, a new Spiderman movie on the horizon, as well as a rather successful parallel universe of Deadpool and Xmen. The Marvel Universe is huge, and DC have a lot of catching up to do.

Marvel have been very creative in their casting and cinematic versions of their characters. They have tried to remain in the realms of realism and relative simplicity, while staying true to the huge array of characters and complex stories in the Marvel comics. Marvel balance visual action, heart and humour extremely effectively, and produce an interweaving story that keeps fans on the edge of their seats movie after movie.

So which am I? I love the Marvel movies, and I’m probably more excited about the next movie in this universe than any other. The movies are funny and full of action, and what more could you want from a Superhero movie? The two movies in the recent revamp of the DC universe, Man of Steel and Batman v Superman were exciting to watch initially, with the former still being the superior of the two. However, something is missing that Marvel seem to find so easy to create, but I’m not sure what it is. I’m sure, however, DC will keep improving, and it’s still in its infancy, especially with Suicide Squad release date approaching.

Marvel are making the better movies right now, and their stories are lighter and funnier, and full of action. But…Batman is just awesome, and no one can deny it! I will love Batman and any move he’s in (maybe not Batman and Robin or Batman Forever- apologies to Kilmer and Clooney!) Maybe it's because Batman is just a guy without powers, or maybe it’s the car "Chicks dig the car"! They may not be the best Superhero movies around, but for me, Batman is the ultimate superhero. So right now it’s Marvel Universe, but as the characters go, Batman will always be my guy! How about you?
