Award-winning, five-piece traditional Scottish band, Breabach, accompanied by Qatari musician Mohamed Alsaegh, will perform a one-off concert at the Al Rayyan Theatre on 5th April 2015, as the British Festival 2015 draws to a close.
The concert celebrates the collaboration of award-winning musicians from Britain and Qatar, showcasing the very best of both cultures.
Following the successful Scotland Day 2013, brought to Qatar by the British Council as part of the Qatar UK Year of Culture, Scottish minister for Europe and International Development, Humza Yousaf, and the Scottish government are delighted to support Breabach performing in Qatar.
Scottish Minister for Europe and International Development, Humza Yousaf, said:
“I am delighted that Breabach, one of our internationally renowned traditional folk bands, are taking to the stage in Qatar. They represent how Scottish music transcends across different cultures, I particularly welcome their collaboration with Mohamed Alsaegh. This cultural showpiece is a key step to developing and deepening our cultural relations with Qatar.”
Breabach, winners of Live Act of the Year and Folk Band of the Year in 2012 and 2013 at the MG Alba Scots Traditional Music Awards, and twice nominated Best Group at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, are known as the new face of traditional Scottish music. Hailing from a student flat in Glasgow in 2003, the quintet, recognized by their haunting twin bag pipe melodies, have come to be recognised as one of the UK’s most dynamic and influential bands, gaining international recognition in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Korea.
Fresh from their recent Australia tour, Breabach’s Calum MacCrimmon said “"We really can't wait to arrive in Doha to experience the buzz and energy of such a thriving city. We're especially looking forward to working with Qatari musician Mohamad Alsaegh and learning more about the local culture and music."
The British Festival 2015 highlights Britain and Qatar building and nurturing strong partnerships in art, commerce, sport, culture, education and science. Qatari-musician, Mohamed Alsaegh, will represent Qatar with his multifaceted musical talent, playing a selection of traditional music on Qatari musical instruments.
A dynamic talent, Mohamed is not only one of Qatar’s top musicians, but also a well-known television actor, playwright, artist and researcher in folk art. He has received numerous festival awards in the Gulf States.

The concert is open to anyone with a love for music and culture, and will be performed at the beautiful Al Rayyan Theatre in Souq Waqif. The 980 capacity theatre enjoys ample parking in the Souq’s recently opened underground facility. It promises to be a truly spectacular evening.
