Under the patronage of His Excellency, Dr. Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari, Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, the Qatar-based, Youth Enterprise, is under tight preparations for its latest initiative, The Arab Hip Hop Festival 2014. The festival is held in partnership with, Youth Hub Qatar, Hilton Hotel, and Red Apple Events and Media.
Aiming to unite hip-hop enthusiasts from around the Arab World, the 3-day festival will showcase five key elements of the genre, including Rap, DJ-ing, breakdancing, beatboxing and Graffiti art. The event will officially kick off on the 3rd of April 2014 at the Hilton Hotel, Doha, with a press conference at 10:30 AM, the Arab hip Hop Conference at 11:30 AM, and the opening ceremony at 6 PM. The following days will focus on an exciting outdoor festival at Hilton Beach.
Over a dozen established Arab hip-hop artists from around the world and more than 1200 visitors will come together to perform, witness and interact in phenomenal shows, competitions, movie screenings, and panel discussions. Fans will also have the opportunity to meet and greet key hip-hop celebrities, learn new skills through workshops, and enjoy a range of live performance and competitions around the area. The festival will feature 2 parts: the first Arab Hip Hop conference, which will be attended by Hip-hop experts, speakers and media representatives from around the nation and region on the 3rd of April, and secondly, the outdoor festival on the 5th and 6th of April, with musical performances and diverse zones, such as the Fan Zone, VIP Lounge, and Battleground, where various stage acts will all be featured.
“AHF’s concept is beyond bringing the artists and providing a source of public entertainment, it focuses on creating innovative strategies in diversifying the hip-hop culture in the Arab world,” says Ahmad Aba-Zaid, Syrian Beatboxer and Director of Arab Hip Hop Festival 2014.
The Arab Hip-hop Festival will feature some of the industry’s leading acts including Doha based beatboxer Ahmad Aba-Zaid himself, B.M.G & K.I.M from France, Satti from Jordan, Boikutt and El Far3i from Palestine, the Arabian Knightz crew, MC Amin from Egypt and female rapper Malikah from Lebanon. These artists will also be actively involved in offering workshops to interested youths in Qatar.
“There is an increasing upsurge in the number of young people who hold an interest in the hip hop culture within the. This presents a need for more youth-oriented events of this kind. The Arab Hip Hop Festival will give fresh talents a chance to explore their skills, and develop new ones. However, this is an event that brings Arab artists together, not only to perform, but also to tackle key issues on how to expand the hip-hop culture in the Arab world.
