Qatar University celebrates Qatar Math Day

Qatar University (QU) celebrated the second edition of Qatar Math Day in the presence of officials from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the university and experts from inside and outside the country, along with 300 teachers, faculty, researchers and students of various universities within the country.

The event included lectures and various other activities that focused on the latest developments in the teaching of mathematics and ways to employ the correct educational methods to advance the process of education and research in teaching math in state schools and universities.

H.E. Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Al Nuaimi said that Qatar Math Day is an annual gathering to display the latest trends, models and developments in the field of mathematics education and learning, in addition to encouraging distinguished initiatives and practices concerned with this specialization in the educational field.

His Excellency stressed that this event comes within the distinguished partnership between the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and QU to support efforts and exchange experiences between researchers and specialists in the field of mathematics education.

Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics at the College of Arts and Sciences at QU Dr. Tamader Al Maadeed said that celebration of Math Day is drawn from Qatar National Vision 2030, which calls for providing an educational level that meets the aspirations of students according to the needs of the current and future labor market.

She added that this event also comes within the efforts exerted by QU to gather those interested in research and teaching in the field of mathematics in Qatar to get acquainted and exchange ideas and experiences for the benefit of the academic community of students, teachers and researchers.

Head of Mathematics Department at the Department of Educational Guidance at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Latifa Al Hardan said that the Ministry has been building multiple and diverse partnerships at all educational and scientific levels in a way that contributes to achieving Qatar National Vision 2030.

She noted that Qatar Math Day is an annual forum that aims to develop scientific thought, spread intellectual knowledge and contribute to creating an innovative scientific space and exchange of experiences between teachers of this event and experts and specialists from inside and outside Qatar. She added that this contributes to the development of various academic and educational programs to support its education in the country in line with international standards and practices.
