The first meeting of the Joint Working Group between the Ministry of Education in Malaysia and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The State of Qatar's delegation to the meeting was headed by H.E. the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim bin Salih Al Nuaimi.

The meeting dealt with a number of topics on its agenda especially issues related to higher education in both countries. It also witnessed a presentation of local and international universities in Malaysia, the possibility of being included on the scholarship lists for Qatari students, as well as discussing issues related to scientific research and the participation of the two countries in this field, and increasing cooperation between Malaysian and Qatari universities. During the meeting, the Malaysian side was briefed on the development of higher education, universities and higher education institutions in the State of Qatar, with the possibility of receiving Malaysian students in these universities.
