Qatar Charity opens primary school in Somalia

HE Minister of Education and Higher Education in the State of Puntland in Somalia Abdullah Mohammed Hassan inaugurated the Dar es Salaam Primary School, which was built by Qatar Charity (QC) in the city of Grouwi, funded by the good people of Qatar.

The 400-square-meter school has a number of classrooms and rooms for the school administration, and is expected to benefit 400 students.

The project aims at supporting and developing the educational process in Somalia, contributing to alleviating the illiteracy rate, reducing the shortage of educational facilities, and raising generations capable of participating in supporting the renaissance of the country.

At the inauguration ceremony of the school, the Minister expressed his pleasure at opening the first school since taking office a month ago. He pointed out that the Ministry of Education and Higher Education will move forward in order to strengthen partnership and cooperation with charitable organizations including Qatar Charity for the development of education.

He also thanked the donors of the people of Qatar for their generous support, without which this school was not built, hoping to contribute to building a generation that contributes to building and rejuvenating the country through science and knowledge.

For his part, Abdel Taher Abshar, Director of Dar es Salaam Primary School, expressed the hope that this school will be a scientific beacon of quality and a dream for the region which was in dire need of a new school to accommodate the increasing numbers of students.

He thanked the State of Qatar and the Qatar Charity (QC) for their continuous efforts in contributing to providing an appropriate educational environment and improving the scientific and educational level of the students, noting the depth of their relationship with Qatar Charity and the pioneering humanitarian role it leads in Somalia through its office in the capital Mogadishu in the areas of relief and development, and the sponsorship of orphans and students of science and teachers.
