Qatar Charity announced that the multi-service orphanage education center in Nairobi will be completed soon.
The educational center includes a large number of service facilities that aim to rehabilitate orphans and their families with basic craftsmanship, raise the percentage of school attendance among orphans and reduce the dropout rate resulting from poverty, Qatar Charity said.
The center is located on an area of 1200 square meters and contains eight classrooms, four internal auditoriums, two training and rehabilitation halls, a restaurant, a mosque, and an artesian well, along with other important facilities. The project also includes a primary school for orphans, and a kindergarten from the age of three to five and is expected to benefit 1000 people.
Qatar Charity pointed out that the center area was chosen carefully as it is located in a populated area, which is one of the new residential areas that have expanded during the last decade. In this area, more than 45 percent of the population is middle class, while the low-income population is 55 percent. The unemployment rate is 46 percent and falls within the marginalized areas for lack of basic services such as health, sanitation, and clean drinking water. The population suffers from the lack of schools, especially the integrated schools, forcing parents to take their children to schools in relatively remote areas.
The project will significantly reduce the problems of education in the region, reduce the burden on parents and provide an appropriate learning environment for students in the region, and will contribute to reducing the problem of overcrowding in schools.
The number of orphans sponsored by Qatar Charity in Kenya has reached 4,300 orphans by the end of last year.
Qatar Charity has launched hundreds of programs, projects, and activities, mainly in the field of humanitarian relief in refugee camps, camps for displaced persons and flood victims, in addition to projects in the field of education, water, and economic empowerment projects for needy families in different parts of Kenya.
