Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) and Qatar’s leading higher education institution, Qatar University have concluded a cooperation agreement for academic research and education. The agreement was signed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum by Lomonosov Moscow State University Rector Academician Victor Sadovnichy and Qatar University President Dr. Hassan Al-Derham.
‘It is our pleasure to be signing a memorandum of understanding with a university as reputed and renowned as the Moscow State University. We are delighted to work together to enhance join coordination and collaboration between the universities in the field of education and research,’ Dr. Hassan Al Derham, President of Qatar University noted.
‘The agreement between Moscow State University and Qatar University is of tremendous importance not merely to the educational institutions themselves, or even to Russia-Qatar bilateral ties,’ MSU Rector, Academician Victor Sadovnichy explained following the signing ceremony. ‘Just a few days ago, we marked four years since the establishment of the Federation of Russian and Arab University Rectors. This body has become a powerful tool for the development of cooperation between universities, strengthening partnership in academic research and education between leading universities in Russia and the Arab world. Two forums have been held, bringing together rectors and presidents of Russian and Arab universities. We are confident that MSU’s partnership with one of the leading universities in the Persian Gulf region will do much to enrich Russian-Arab cooperation in education and research, giving a fresh boost to cooperation both in education, and in academic research,’ Victor Sadovnichy stressed.
Establishing their cooperation in academic research and education, the agreement covers various aspects of interaction between the universities. The partnership will focus on promoting internationalisation in education, increasing academic mobility, expanding cultural links and joint activity in education and research.
Under the new agreement, the universities will coordinate exchanging experience and information in order to expand research and academic cooperation. They will also work together to hold seminars, workshops, lectures and courses geared to the needs of the Qatari community. The universities will also carry out joint programmes in education and research, and work together to establish dual degree Master’s and PhD programmes.
