In a tweet on 29 April 2023, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) announced that believing in the importance of investing in early childhood and following the best practices of the global and most successful educational systems, the ministry launched a project to add the '3-year-old' level; as a pilot phase in four public kindergartens starting August 2023.

The ministry announced that it carefully selected the kindergartens based on their locations in the most populated municipalities. The selected kindergartens were:

• Abu Hanifa Kindergarten for Boys in Doha Municipality
• Al Manar Kindergarten for Boys in Al Rayyan Municipality
• Al Khawarzimi Kindergarten for Girls in Umm Salal Municipality
• Zikret Kindergarten in Al Daayen Municipality

As per the official announcement, registration of students will be open according to the geographical region. Two classes will be allocated for each kindergarten, each containing only 16 seats.

The ministry also mentioned that educating children at an early age (3 years) helps provide the strong foundations to build the personalities they need, to become adults who can contribute to building the society.
