The German International School celebrated it’s 10th year in Doha last year with the ‘Excellent German School Abroad” seal of quality award after it passed the Federal-State Inspection (BLI) with flying colours. This prestigious school which bases its education and teaching methods around the principles of freedom, democracy, human rights, social justice, and ecological awareness, is part of a worldwide network of 140 German Schools and is partially funded by the Federal Republic of Germany.
Its first-class academic quality and bi-cultural profile has resulted in the German International School Doha becoming one of the most outstanding schools in Qatar. The school currently educates approximately 300 pupils, with a class size comprising of a maximum of 25 students, with the average number being a comfortable 16 students.
As a school, the German International School implements a holistic pedagogy that promotes learning, recreation, cognitive and physical as well as social and creative activities. The school sees itself as a learning and living environment that enables students and teachers to feel comfortable, learn together, take responsibility, and to be actively involved in the school community and beyond.
As a student at the German International School, you’ll learn to become self-confident, develop self-reliance, social competence, and the willingness to achieve, along with critical and creative thinking. You’ll be given the education and the knowledge to realise your wishes and ideas as politically mature citizens in the globalised world of the future and to take responsibility for your actions.
As a parent, rest assured that your children are in the best of hands. The German International School has well-qualified teachers and staff who promote and challenge individual personality development and lifelong learning in a familiar environment, where everyone treats each other with respect; and a dedicated, experienced and skilled support staff that is always there to help.
“The better a child can play, the better they can learn” - with this in mind, the German International School places great importance on a playful learning system so that children can experiment, explore and understand a world that they create for themselves while playing. Children are provided with a fun and challenging outdoor play area with the all the essential materials suitable for role-playing and for large-scale construction, painting or handicraft and experimentation.
The school consists of a Kindergarten (children between 3 - 6 years of age), a Primary School (grades 1 - 4) and a Secondary School I and II. Grades 11 and 12 are taught according to the specifications of the IB Diploma-Programme (German/English) to provide students with a diploma that will help them to get a place at an university in Germany or any other country in the world.
Starting from Kindergarten and right up to the International Baccalaureate (IB®), the German International School offers German-speaking children, and those who want to become German-speaking, a schooling programme based on the curriculum of the federal state of Thuringia, adapted to the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
The German International School promotes encounters and exchange with the host country Qatar and its international population. The national language, history, and culture as well as the country‘s international diversity are incorporated in the teaching and life of the school.
German culture and language are the foundation of the school’s work, which is enriched by the international diversity and multilingualism of our students.
To ensure the best quality of education, the school evaluates their entire educational process on a regular basis. They observe and document each child’s status to take proper action for their further development. Moreover, to ensure the best performance of the staff, they also arrange regular training courses so that the staff can constantly update and improve their skills. Parents are always well informed about their children’s progress through regularly scheduled meetings.
The German International School is a ‘meeting school’ where a diverse range of cultures converge to help shape us all together and enrich our lives. This diversity is a great opportunity to break down barriers that also go beyond physical peculiarities, individual learning behaviour, or peculiarities in social behaviour. For this reason, we have developed the premises of the school in such a way that it is barrier-free. Being different is welcome. Based on the admission of all students, cooperation with parents is especially important to us. In addition to funded lessons, the DIS Doha offers an additional network of helpers and team teachers, which are part of the spatial environment.
So, if you want to give your children the best possible education in an enriching environment where they can grow and develop as individuals who are ready to take on the world and its many challenges head on, the German International School is the best choice because not only does it provide play-based learning alongside an interactive, child-centered curriculum, it is characterised by transparency, trust, and appreciation.
