ACS International School Doha has partnered with US-based company Paragon One to provide students with the opportunity to gain work experience with some of the world’s biggest companies.
Students in Grades 9 to 12 who participate in the Externship programme will be placed with a company for 8 weeks, working on real projects that will provide them with invaluable experience in project management and time management, whilst developing their business skills and knowledge.
An Externship is a remote internship – all of the work is done online, allowing the program to include companies based across the globe. The other advantage of the Externships taking place online is that students can manage their own work-schedules and complete their tasks at times that are suitable to them.
Students are allocated a manager-mentor, with whom they have a live weekly check-in, and there are also opportunities for them to connect with fellow students in other countries who are working on similar projects to them. They have access to a comprehensive online platform where they can access advice and information, and manage their projects.
Paragon One have spent many years cultivating rich relationships with companies such as Facebook, HP, Crafted Capital and RallyCry Ventures. They have developed programs that allow students to work with companies on real projects, providing them with experience that adds value to their university applications and their CVs. Up until now, Paragon One have worked primarily with university students, and are now starting to expand their program to include schools.
ACS Doha is the only school in Qatar to be offering this Externship program to its students. This year, 50 ACS students will participate, and it is hoped that this program will continue beyond 2021 to allow more students to benefit.
