The Al Khor Municipality, in cooperation with the Ras Laffan Social Networking Program, has recently opened three parks in the city of Al Khor as part of the ongoing beautification efforts being implemented throughout Qatar. The parks are new additions to the municipality's green spaces programmes.
The first park has been opened in Al Khor as part of the beautification of the city (Beautifying the Northern Entrance of Al Khor Project), while the second and third parks are named Al Owaina and Al Baraha, respectively.
The opening of the park was attended by Abdulaziz al-Sayed, acting director of Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality, Sheikha Dana Rashid al-Thani, the chief official of the Ras Laffan Community Outreach Programme, Abdullah al-Muraikhi, member of the Central Municipal Council from Al Khor, and a number of municipality officials.
Abdullah Ibrahim Al Mohannadi, Head of the Public Parks Department in Al Khor Municipality, said in exclusive statements to Al Raya:
"The three parks were created in cooperation with the Ras Laffan Program for Social Communication. The three gardens were previously empty plots that distorted the general view in the city of Al Khor, but after turning them into public gardens added a new, civilized touch to the city. It consists of green spaces of different levels, and includes a large group of trees and a walkway in the middle with a length of 600 meters, and includes 7 pergolas in different shapes as a resting place for visitors, and it is equipped with lighting."
The second park, Al Owaina Park, covers an area of 22,000 square meters and includes a green area of 18,000 square meters, surrounded by a 500-meter walkway with a large number of local trees. It also includes a small canopy as a rest stop for visitors.
With regards to Al Baraha Garden, Al Mohannadi explained that it is considered the first of its kind in Al Khor, as it was designed in a heritage style, providing large areas for both modern and traditional games, pointing out that the park area is 1560 square meters, and he noted that it was named Al Baraha Park because it contains popular games, adding that the three parks have been built without fences.
For his part, Abdullah Makled Al-Muraikhi, a member of the Central Municipal Council for Al Khor, thanked the Ras Laffan Program for Social Communication for its continuous efforts to support many of the projects that are being established in Al Khor.
Al Muraikhi told Al Raya:
"The three parks that were inaugurated under the auspices of the program are but a model for a series of projects that the program has supported in the creek over the past years, pointing out that the three parks are a new addition to the beautification plans in the city of Al Khor, especially in light of its embrace of one of the most prominent stadiums. World Cup 2022 World Cup home stadium."
Abdullah Makled Al-Muraikhi praised the great efforts made by Al Khor Municipality in taking care of the gardens and other projects that serve the people of the city, which contributed to giving this city a civilized appearance, making it an important tourist destination.
