Well, well! Doha News has confirmed that viral post going around about a man trying to sneak in Pork in Doha, is false. The rumor, which we talked about earlier here, has been busted and we can’t help but realize about the various ways that actually make it this easy for us to fall for it.
While this might be a viral story going around as a joke started by someone, there have been instances in the past where people have been arrested for actually smuggling all kinds of illegal things.
Drug trafficking is one of the most committed crimes here. For instance, there have been people trying to smuggle in various drugs such as Hashish and Opium. Just last month a man tried to smuggle in marijuana in a box of pastries. And let's not forget last year’s attempt to bring in Captagon amphetamine pills. This shows how people are trying to get away with anything and everything.
Furthermore, in 2013, African mules were used to smuggle cocaine through Qatar and distribute in Asia and African. You would think that the strict laws against drugs would stop people from doing this but the attempts keep getting worse.
If we speak of the various things that are smuggled apart from drugs, gold surely is on the top of the list. Not only is it about gold, recently, 250 Rolex watches were stolen from HIA and the man was nabbed at the airport after he landed in Egypt.
Qatar has strict policies regarding certain items and these include drugs, adult toys, pork related products and pornographic materials. In addition to this, people who have HIV are not allowed to enter the country.
Even though alcohol is served in Qatar, Muslims are not allowed to buy from the airport or warehouses until and unless they hold a special license. The government has been very particular about such limits and been successful in keeping a check. However, after some rare incidents took place, they have taken up some extreme measures all over again.
What do you think about the recent smuggling story that went viral? Do you think anyone would take such extreme measures to smuggle anything in and out of Qatar? Comment on the article to let us know.
