SustainableQATAR’s 52 weekly challenges – that is one challenge per week for a whole year themed by month – are Qatar-specific and Qatar-relevant opportunities for all residents to take actions in personal life, work and within our communities.

Refrigerant management is one of the most promising options to reduce carbon emissions. When we turn our words into actions, we can achieve great things.

From ozone-depleting chemicals like CFCs to global warming-contributing replacement chemicals HFCs, cooling requires our attention for climate action. We all use air conditioning in Qatar and can all be part of the solution if we choose to do so.

This week’s challenge addresses how cooling chemicals contribute to global warming and how our daily decisions and new innovations in green cooling technologies can reduce and eliminate greenhouse gas emissions.

Our monthly blog on the emerging field of Green Chemistry discusses value creation as an economic motivation to phase out unsafe and toxic chemicals from our daily lives to work toward human, social and environmental sustainability as outlined in the Qatar National Vision 2030.
