While condolences poured in on social media yesterday over the death of five Filipinos, including a one-year-old, in a car accident, many took the chance to remind motorists of safe driving.

The news came as a shock to many, especially Filipinos, as the accident occurred amid Eid Al Adha festivities. “Condolence. May all the souls of our departed compatriots from this tragic accident rest in peace and be given justice,” a Filipino posted on Facebook.

Another Facebook user called the accident ‘unimaginable’ considering the low speed limit on the road leading to Hamad International Airport (HIA). “I didn’t expect this accident to happen on this road. The speed limit near HIA is low, yet this happened. It’s unfortunate. Condolence to the family,” he wrote.

“Keep safe driving and follow traffic rules strictly especially on using mobile phone while driving… It is so scary to drive here in Qatar because of reckless drivers,” another said on Facebook. Yet another post shared the same view, saying safety depended on the hands of motorists.

“No matter how careful you are, if other drivers are reckless, you cannot avoid accidents and no one can save you if it’s really your time,” he said.
