More than 20 volunteers from Reach Out To Asia (ROTA), Qatar’s leading non-profit and community development organization, gathered Wednesday to celebrate Iftar with residents at the Qatar Foundation for Elderly Care.
Having partnered with ROTA for seven years, Qatar Foundation for Elderly Care, which provides care and treatment for elderly residents in Qatar, has been a longstanding partner of ROTA’s volunteer program and an integral part of ROTA’s annual Ramadan campaign.
ROTA Board Member Dr Sheikha Aisha bint Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani celebrated with volunteers and Qatar Foundation for Elderly Care staff, spending considerable time visiting with elderly residents during and after the event. ROTA volunteers offered personal assistance and dined with residents, helping serve an exquisite meal to them. Volunteers from Occidental Petroleum Corporation (OXY) Qatar, the exclusive sponsor of ROTA’s Ramadan project and QMDI joined the celebration.
“The residents at Qatar Foundation for Elderly Care have given us so much over the course of their lives, which is why we are so proud and eager to spend time with them and give back to the wider community during the Holy Month of Ramadan,” said Dr Sheikha Aisha bint Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani. “Each year I am heartened by the joy I see among residents and the enthusiasm of ROTA’s volunteers as they help elderly residents and enjoy a meal together.”
“Our annual Iftar with residents of the Qatar Foundation for Elderly Care is richly rewarding for residents and ROTA volunteers alike,” said National Program Director at ROTA, Mr. Mohamed Al Saleh “The event spans and unites different generations for a joyous and mutually beneficial event that truly embodies the values of volunteerism and community service. We are grateful to our exclusive sponsor OXY Qatar and to our volunteers for making this event a success each year.”
Khalid Abdulla Hussein, Director of Public Relations & Media at Ihsan, commented: “Ihsan is very keen to host events that spread joy and love among Ihsan residents - especially in Ramadan, which is the month of solidarity. Engaging with the elderly will give them a feeling of belonging, and help them observe the rituals of the holy month."
Mr Hussein praised ROTA’s role as one of the leading charitable institutions with a distinguished reputation in humanitarian work around the world. He also added his appreciation and gratitude for Her Excellency Sheikha Dr Aisha bint Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani, ROTA’s Board Member, for her participation at the Iftar.
Speaking to one ROTA’s volunteers, Mohamed Faizal, IT Manager at The Pearl Qatar said:
“I have been volunteering with ROTA for the last two years. Volunteering at today’s Iftar with the elderly is a great opportunity to meet and give back to the community. It’s a great feeling to be involved in such events and we as volunteers of ROTA are grateful for the opportunity to get involved. My journey with ROTA has inspired me to be a better person.” “I urge all volunteers to be committed to ROTA in their roles, as it’s a very rewarding process”
“Sharing Blessings”, ROTA’s wider Ramadan 2014 campaign, has become one of Qatar’s most recognized volunteer efforts supporting the local community during the Holy Month. In partnership with OXY Qatar, this community Iftar was the latest in a series of events aiming to provide engaging volunteering opportunities and raise the awareness of the values of volunteerism and community service. The campaign has so far included extensive renovations at the Bangladesh school in Abu Hamour and other special Iftar meals with community-based institutions. ROTA volunteers have also packed and distributed groceries to over 200 families in need in Qatar.
