The 5th edition of the Mahaseel (which means 'harvest' in Arabic) Festival, held by Katara Cultural Village in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, took off yesterday morning at 9 am at Katara's southern area, and it is quite the treat. The aim of this colourful festival is to support the agriculture and livestock industry in Qatar, and highlight 'Made in Qatar' products, so the general public is aware of the local products in the market. Visitors to the festival can buy the freshest produce in the market straight from the farms of Qatar.
This year, you'll find nine 'Made in Qatar' companies and 28 Qatari farms at the festival, and each one has something great to offer.
You'll find all kinds of 'Made in Qatar' vegetables like corn, broccoli, radishes, tomatoes, bitter gourd, eggplants, capsicums, lemons, green chillies, zucchini and much more.
When it comes to livestock, you'll find fresh chicken pieces, eggs, and meat. In fact, you'll even find meat that's already spiced up and ready for the barbecue. All you need to do is take it home, fire up that grill and enjoy a delicious barbecue!
Feeling thirsty? Why not try one of the different juices on offer or dairy products like milk, laban and flavoured milk. They're all delicious and great thirst quenchers. Take some home with you, too, for your family and friends.
Feel like something sweet? No worries. You'll also find a range of different flavoured ice-creams at the festival that are creamy and full of that sweet goodness your sweet tooth's been craving!
Speaking of sweet tooths, there are a number of different varieties of honey to try out at the festival and they are available at different prices, so you're bound to find something fresh and sweet to not only satisfy your palate, but also that suits your pocket.
You'll find the greenest plants in Qatar at the Mahaseel Festival. The best thing is all these plants grow well even in the harsh summers of Qatar. Take some of them home and see how they add colour and freshness to different parts of your home. And, while you're there, take home some beautiful flowers to gift to family and friends, or even to adorn your own home.
You simply cannot miss out the opportunity to take a few selfies at the festival. There are some beautiful spots. There's a lovely garden that's made up of white and maroon flowers that's just perfect for those selfies we all love to take. There's also a flower bed when you enter the festival that says Katara Mahaseel Festival in Arabic. Lush green plants being sold at the different kiosks also provide a great backdrop for photographs. The festival, on the whole, is great for selfies and photographs.
You'll love the Mahaseel Festival, and so will your family. The freshness of the whole Festival will blow you away. There's something for everyone even the kids who will enjoy running around and checking out the different products on offer. In fact, you'll just want to take everything home because it's all so fresh, wholesome and healthy.
And, if you feel hungry, you'll find different stalls selling food and also a seating arrangement where you can take a break before you get right back to some shopping.
Please note: Although there is a Qatar National Bank mobile ATM van parked at the entrance of the Mahaseel Festival, it's still better to also have some cash on hand with you, just in case, the mobile ATM is not working, and also because a lot of the kiosks only accept cash.
If you're travelling by Metro, please get down at the Al Gassar Metro Station. It's the nearest metro station to the Mahaseel Festival in Southern Katara (opposite to St. Regis Doha Hotel).
