Qatar Red Crescent Society's (QRCS) relief team is set to travel to the Arsal camps on Wednesday evening to implement an emergency response program for those affected by snow storm victims. The implementation will begin on Thursday in cooperation with the QRCS's representative mission there, besides conducting a field need assessment to develop an expanded relief program.

In this context, the QRCS today signed a cooperation agreement with the Lebanese Al Irshad Al Islah Islamic Charity Association to implement an emergency winter response project for Syrian refugees in Lebanon at a total cost of US$ 133,560.

The agreement was signed by HE QRCS's Secretary General Ambassador Ali bin Hassan Al Hammadi, and head of Al Irshad Al Islah Islamic Charity Association Jamal Khalid Mahyu.

Under the agreement, 180,000 liters of diesel will be distributed to 3,000 families of Syrian refugees and vulnerable families from the host community in the Bekaa camps (Bekaa and Arsal), at a rate of 60 liters of diesel per household to help them cope with the winter and ensure minimum living standards.

The response plan also includes emergency intervention in case of closure of the roads of the camps and the surrounding roads, by supporting use of bulldozers and heavy machinery to open roads or drain water from the camps due to torrential rains and heavy rainfall. Emergency intervention will also be provided to help families trapped by the flood by evacuating them to the temporary housing provided by associations and institutions working in the emergency response in the region through supporting and providing mechanisms for transportation and covering all related costs.
