Qnd Cleaning

Ministry of Municipality and Environment represented by the General Cleanliness Department has cleaned out the main venues of Qatar National Day (QND) celebration in record time.

“The cleaning work was completed in record time - within four hours at the places of QND celebrations like Corniche, Darb Al Saai, public parks, and picnic places,” said Safar Mubarak Al Shafi, Head of Committee for Preparing QND at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment and Director of General Cleanliness Department.

He said that working teams were deployed and necessary machines and equipment were engaged in service according to a pre-planned programme to cover QND celebration, the biggest national event to maintain the hygiene before, during and after the celebration.

“As per the plan, the intensified cleaning operation began by cleaning and sweeping key highways and internal roads with a special focus on Corniche, Darb Al Saai and parade ground by the beginning of celebration week till after the end it,” said Al Shafi. He confirmed that all cleaning work was completed with high efficiency despite some challenges like a traffic jam and huge crowd around celebration venues especially at Corniche which caused to wait till late night and closure of some roads which put hindrance in the way of reaching cleaning machines to the required sites on time.

Speaking about maintaining hygiene around Corniche, Al Shafi said: “General Cleanliness Department made great efforts during the celebration and after it, as cleaning operation was continued round-the-clock- till the morning of December 19. About 720 workers, drivers and supervisors were deployed and 40 cleaning equipment and 62 vehicles for monitoring were engaged in service to clean out the targeted areas as soon as possible.”

He said that cleaning operation was accomplished in record time from 1am to 5am as all areas were restored to its normal condition before employees leave to their works in the morning.
“General Cleanliness Department removed about 17 tonnes of different types of wastes from around Corniche,” said Al Shafi.

He said that cleaning operation was carried out in coordination with General Directorate of Traffic, internal security forces Lekhwiya and Al Fazaa.

“Large quantity of wastes including papers, plastic bottles and cans were removed from Corniche in a bid to restore the area as it was before the celebration- cleaned and good looking,” said Al Shafi.
