Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and Qatar Charity signed a joint funding agreement to support an emergency response to Syrians in northern Syria, Lebanon and Jordan through the implementation of a number of projects with an overall estimated budget of more than USD 6.5 million.

The Deputy Director General for Projects at Qatar Fund for Development Misfer bin Hamad Al Shahwani said: "The purpose of this agreement is to support Syrians in northern Syria and neighboring countries, through several relief and health related projects," hoping that these projects will be beneficial to the Syrian people. He also commended the cooperation between Qatar Charity and Qatar Fund for Development, noting that there will be more upcoming projects with Qatar Charity to be announced in due course.

The Assistant General Manager of Operations and International Partnerships at Qatar Charity Faisal bin Rashid Al Fahaideh thanked Qatar Fund for Development for its generous support in the implementation of the health and relief related projects for northern Syria and neighboring countries, thus contributing to alleviating the human suffering experienced by these people.

Al Fahaideh commented that the agreement reinforces the strategic partnership between Qatar Fund for Development and Qatar Charity, and also noted that the latter has embarked on the implementation of the projects immediately, as Qatar Charity Offices and partners have been directed to start implementing the projects.

With regard to the projects to be implemented in light of this agreement in northern Syria, Jordan and Lebanon, a detailed action plan to support the emergency response will be executed through the implementation of a number of projects in the health sector with a budget of USD 6.505,724 million.

These projects include a specialized primary health care project that supports and operates health centers in northern Syria, the development of the Arsal Medical Center in Lebanon, pre-natal and postnatal health care project for Syrian refugees in Lebanon, as well as integrated health services in Zaatari camp.

The Qatari Center for Chronic Diseases in Lebanon will provide full health care to 20,000 refugee patients per year for people suffering from chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and neurological diseases. Whereas the specialized primary health care program will aim to raise the quality of public health and basic health services for the Syrians, reaching 144,000 beneficiaries. Furthermore, Arsal medical Centre in Lebanon will benefit 18,000 patients annually.

In regards to the pre-natal, postpartum and cesarean support project, it is estimated that the project will provide care for 15,000 Syrian refugees in Lebanon including premature babies. Whereas the integrated health services center in Zaatari camp will provide primary and secondary health care services, general surgeries for bones and skin and will also include specialized clinics for children therefore benefiting 58,000 people.
