The Beacon Of Knowledge And Light’ Festival

Qatar Foundation (QF) is to host the second edition of ‘The Beacon of Knowledge and Light’ festival in the Minaretein building in Education City from January 25-26, 2019.

The event is open to the public and, through a variety of activities, aims to provide an opportunity for the whole community to come together and learn about Islam and Islamic history. Activities include designing ceramic tiles, architectural tours, and giving children the opportunity to see who can build the tallest minaret using everyday items such as balloons and tape.

Mrs. Machaille Al-Naimi, President of Community Development, QF, said: “We are delighted to once again be hosting this popular event. ‘The Beacon of Knowledge and Light’ festival is not just an opportunity to show the community what the Minaretein building has to offer, but aims to highlight some of Qatar Foundation’s cultural centers, programs, and initiatives that strive to foster an active and engaged society that is appreciative of its Islamic and Arabic heritage.”

A number of QF centers are participating in the festival, including the Qur’anic Botanic Garden, QatarDebate, Qatar Diabetes Association, Al Shaqab, and Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute, part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University. Other participating entities include Qatar Red Crescent, Qatar Charity, Wijdan Cultural Center, and Embrace Doha.

As part of the festival, a number of Islamic scholars and guest lecturers will participate in the event, with Sheikh Omar Farouq Alrahmany set to deliver the Jummah (Friday) prayer.

The event will run from 12pm to 9pm on Friday, January 25, and from 10am to 8pm on Saturday, January 26.
