Qatar has agreed to employ 50,000 Bangladeshi workers, who will be recruited in two months, a Bangladeshi minister has said.
Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, expatriates welfare and overseas employment (EWOE) minister, who has just returned to Dhaka from a visit to Doha said more workers could find employment in the Arabian Gulf country this year.
“If some 50,000 workers can get jobs in Qatar within two months, about 100,000 to 150,000 workers may go there in the next 10 months of the year,” the New Age Online portal quoted him as saying.
The minister made the remarks while speaking at a press conference at Probashi Kalyan Bhaban after returning from Qatar on February 27.
Mosharraf said that Bangladeshi workers would be sent to Qatar at zero migration cost as the employers will provide air fare and other expenses.
He told a reporter that the already enlisted workers were also entitled to selection for Qatar job market. The local recruiting agencies could only help the selected workers to get through the emigration process in exchange of some service charge, he said.
EWOE ministry secretary Khandaker Mohamed Iftekhar Haider and Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training director general Begum Shamsun Nahar were among others present at the briefing, New Age added.
