Third Local Dates Festival 2021 begins tomorrow

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment, represented by the Department of Agricultural Affairs and the Department of Souq Waqif, is organizing the third local dates exhibition for the 2021 season, with the participation of more than 60 local farms and national companies, starting tomorrow, 14 October, and for a period of ten days, in the Western Square of Souq Waqif from 3 pm to 9 pm and during the weekend until 10 pm.

Mr. Muhammad Al-Salem, Head of the Old Markets Department at the Private Engineering Office, said in a statement that the exhibition, in its third edition, aims to promote the national product of dates and introduce its different types, in addition to encouraging local farm owners to provide outlets for displaying and marketing their products directly to the public, which will reflect positively on the volume of dates. Its sales and enhances its ability to increase production and develop the marketing method. It is also an opportunity for exchanging experiences between producers and manufacturers of local dates, which contributes to the development of this important sector.

He explained that the Souq Waqif administration identified the western square as a venue for the exhibition, and finished preparing the tent prepared for this event, which is 120 meters long and 50 meters wide. Obligations and equipment are necessary to complete the marketing process.

He pointed out that the tent will open its doors to the public every day during the exhibition period from three in the afternoon until nine in the evening and at the end of the week until ten in the evening.

Muhammad Al-Salem pointed out that the tent took into account the provision of suitable interstitial spaces in compliance with the precautionary and preventive measures followed to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and the western square was chosen for its proximity to car parks to facilitate the public.

He noted that, as a commitment from the Souq Waqif administration to preserve the health and safety of visitors to the exhibition, proof of receiving two doses of the vaccine against COVID-19 and wearing a mask was required to enter the exhibition, whether for the public or farms and exhibiting companies, as well as observing the physical distance between those who frequent the place.

He stressed the keenness of the market management to host this annual event, given that Souq Waqif is mainly a heritage and dates are at the heart of the Qatari environment, culture, and heritage.

It is noteworthy that the organizing committee of the exhibition is keen annually to ensure that the dates participating in the exhibition are good, clean, free from injuries, molds, insects, and impurities and that they are from the production of the current year, and a team of specialists from the Department of Agricultural Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment takes samples from the participating farms for examination and analysis to ensure that they are free From toxic substances and the residual effect of pesticides.
