The fourth edition of Qatar Sustainability Week (QSW), held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, officially kicked-off today. Scheduled to run from October 26 to November 2, QSW 2019 presents over 200 sustainability-related activities and events all over the country and in every community.
The week-long national sustainability initiative of the Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), will showcase the efforts of the public and private sectors and their innovative, practical solutions to the environmental challenges facing Qatar and the wider region. Engaging a diverse range of stakeholders will also facilitate the coordination needed to unite under an overarching umbrella and facilitate the delivery of the Qatar National Vision 2030 in line with the global sustainability agenda.
Engineer Meshal Al Shammari, Director, QGBC, said: “Initiatives like Qatar Sustainability Week build bridges for our communities to join national and global movements, while also highlighting the major milestones the country has reached through sustainable practices. With the backing of our sponsors and supporting partners, who are making real and measurable differences, we look forward to welcoming Qatar’s residents to the diverse events taking place throughout the coming week.”
Sustainability campaigns run by government and private bodies, hotels, restaurants, universities, and schools will allow for engagement their respective communities during QSW 2019. Informative talks and lectures, hands-on workshops on lean thinking in public governance and construction, “Run for Wellness” at Aspire Park, a beach and desert clean-up, Future Vision – Botanical Art Exhibition, waste management and recycling campaigns are among the sustainability-oriented activities taking place all over the country. Al Wakrah Municipality, in collaboration with QGBC, will also launch the ‘Green Home Guide’ in Al Wakrah.
These events have received endorsements from key governmental bodies, including Tarsheed, the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency – part of KAHRAMAA; the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.
