Qatar’s population has reached an all-time high of 2,374,860, according to figures released by the Ministry of Development Planning & Statistics, based on the number of people present in the country on May 31.
There has been an increase of approximately 200,000 people compared to May 31, 2014 when it was 2,174,055. The latest figures show a growth of almost 9% compared to May 2014.
The break-up of women and men was not available in the latest statistics.
The figures show there has been a steady rise in the population between April and May since 2009. However, the population has always fallen between June and September, and sometimes in October too.
Compared to the population of April 30, there was an addition of almost 32,000 in the latest figures. The April figures put the number of people in the country at 2,342,725.
The population growth between April and May this year has been the highest ever, according to the figures.
While the growth this year was almost 32,000, last year it was a little more than 18,500 (April 2014, 2,155,446; May 2014, 2,174,035).
In 2013, the figures were 1,944,954 (April) and 1,963,124 (May), and in 2012, the figures were 1,792,134 (April) and 1,795, 828 (May).
The figures of April and May 2011 were 1,692,262 and 1,703,448 respectively.
In 2010, the population was 1,670,389 (in April) and 1,678,568 (May) and in 2009, the April and May figures were 1,650,139 and 1,652,608 respectively.
