Qatar National Library continues to offer a comprehensive array of exciting online events this month to help people of all ages improve their skills and increase their knowledge.

On 1 July, join us online for the first in a series of talks providing a look at rare historical works from Qatar National Library’s collection of manuscripts.

Entitled Readings in the Manuscript Collection: An Introduction to the History of the Heritage Library – the series offers a great opportunity to explore the rich collection of the Heritage Library, alongside its digital and virtual services.

This introductory talk by Mr. Mohammed Hammam Fikry, Heritage and Rare Books Advisor at Qatar Foundation, will introduce the Heritage Library’s history, its foundation and the development of the collection until it became the core collection which Qatar National Library was built upon.

Mahmoud Zaki, the Manuscript Librarian at the Library, will moderate the talk and provide an overview of the collection’s masterpieces and some fundamental terms, concepts, and disciplines, and will analyze why it’s so important to care for manuscripts and old texts.

Also on 1 July, as part of the Library’s lecture series Our Children Matter, we’ll bring you Five Stars Upbringing by Dr. Jasem Al Mutawa via Microsoft Teams. Dr. Jasem will present educational theories and behavioural patterns in children, as well as outlining positive methods to deal with these behaviours.

On 7 July, as part of the Young Adults Virtual Camp, participants can learn how to design their own website from scratch with Basic Web Development for Teens – experts will be on hand to offer advice on guidance on building a professional website as the Library continues to help foster the digital developers of the future.

On 8 July, also part of the Virtual Camp, young people can join our Science Show, in collaboration with Qatar Scientific Club. We’ll be live streaming various scientific experiments presented by expert instructor Abdulhai Bin Ali Al-Qizani. A question and answer session will take place at the end of the show, with the person asking the best question receiving a fabulous prize.

The Qatar Scientific Club will also carry out simple scientific experiments on July 13 with Engaging Science Experiments from home to help explain scientific concepts such as polymerization, density and pressure in liquid. Participants will receive an email of the required supplies needed to conduct the experiments with the instructor.

Do you dream of one day becoming a filmmaker? Children and young adult lovers of celluloid can join us on 11 July for our Film Talk on The Children and Young Adult’s Instagram live stream. Qatari filmmaker Khalifa Al Marri will discuss his successful journey to becoming a film director and how you can do the same!
