On February 24, QBG and its partners will mark Qatar Environment Day with a planting event. The Qur’anic Botanic Garden (QBG), a member of Qatar Foundation, will be planting 300 wild trees in Rawdat Al-Faras in Al Nasraniya to help restore the natural ecological balance of the area by reducing carbon emissions and limiting desertification in the country. On February 24, QBG and its partners will mark Qatar Environment Day with this planting event.
“In addition, and as part of QBG’s conservation efforts in 2022, we will supply the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change’s Department of Protection and Wildlife with 1,000 seedlings of wild plant species that have been cultivated at our Plant Resources Conservation Centre in an effort to contribute to the rehabilitation of these species on the Qatari mainland," according to Fatima al-Khulaifi, director, QBG.
“Also, our team of environmental experts and researchers are conducting a field and laboratory study on ‘seed patterns and germination of Qatari plants’ through accurate imaging of seed samples using a light microscope, as well as forming a joint research team with the Environmental Science Center to conserve and document genetic resources in Qatar. Over the years, we have worked closely with the country and world’s most important environmental stakeholders to protect our planet and all our work,” continued, al- Kulaifi.
“We will continue to support Qatar’s sustainable development and environmental protection efforts through our partnership with the Qatar Red Crescent Society, to who we have pledged to donate 2.5mn trees. These trees will be planted by their volunteers throughout Qatar. With this, we will contribute to both the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross organization’s environmental initiative of planting 50 mn trees across the Arab world and Qatar’s plans to plant 10mn trees by 2030,” she concluded.
