Every February 26 of each year, the country has been celebrating Qatar Environment Day. This year, it falls on Wednesday, and a number of governmental, non-governmental, and community members are holding activities to celebrate the major event.
H.E. Minister of Municipality and Environment Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie noted that the State of Qatar shares the interest of the world in preserving biodiversity, and for this year, the Ministry celebrates the Qatar Environment Day with a national slogan "let's live together", realizing the importance of biodiversity in achieving environmental balance and sustainability.
Speaking on this occasion, H.E. Minister of Municipality and Environment Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie underlined that the State of Qatar attaches great importance to the issue of the environment and its preservation, in light of the wise leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, where the state has put environmental development as one of the four main pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030, and stressed that achieving this vision is a national responsibility.
H.E the Minister said that the celebration of this occasion, with the participation of government, private agencies and various groups of society, aims to emphasize the importance of the environment and its preservation and sustainability for future generations, noting that through the second national development strategy and the sustainable strategy of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (2018-2022), clear goals are set to achieve the environmental sustainability of the country, as the Ministry works through many projects and initiatives to achieve these environmental strategic goals.
H.E. the Minister Al Subaie underscored the importance of the participation of all agencies and individuals in the country in the efforts to preserve the environment, appreciating the efforts made by various parties and individuals, which undoubtedly contribute to enhancing the efforts of the Ministry in this field, as well as the important and vital role of the media in spreading awareness to preserve the environment and biological diversity. He called on everyone to contribute to preserving biodiversity in the Qatari environment in order to achieve environmental sustainability for the current and future generations.
From February 26 to 28, the Environmental Affairs Units of MME have prepared activities in Katara under the slogan "Let's Live Together", emphasizing the interest in biodiversity and sustainability in the Qatari environment.
In addition, the Ministry is conducting cleaning campaigns for some beaches, roads, and parks in different regions of the country along with afforestation and agricultural work, in cooperation with different institutions and authorities in Qatar.
The Environmental Affairs Units work hard to maintain the survival of vital systems, restore balance, preserve the environment, and develop and sustain its resources, which are considered fortunes for future generations, based on the Ministry's responsibility towards the environment and achieving its vision, mission, and lofty goals, with a positive effectiveness based on synergy, cooperation and coordination of efforts, capabilities, and resources available through interaction and interconnection processes with other basic functions and tasks of the administrative units inside and outside the ministry.
The Environmental Affairs Units has implemented many environmental practices and programs that support the path of development and environmental conservation within the strategic plan and international treaties and agreements in this regard in a manner that reflects the aspiration of the people of Qatar and future generations.
H.E. Minister Al Subaie emphasized that the Ministry of Municipality and Environment seeks to protect Qatar's environment diversify and preserve its resources in order to achieve sustainable development and work to protect the sustainability of living and non-living natural resources.
MME implemented a number of projects and programs in this regard:
The Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences is holding a talk on "Emerging Pollutants and Society" from 8 am on the day of Qatar Environment Day at Qatar University.
Faseelah and Youth 4 Environment, both environmental initiatives, are doing a cleanup along the Doha Corniche to mark Qatar Environment Day as one of the very important occasions to remind the Qatari people of the importance of preserving the environment and the various plants and animals on the country.
FBQ Museum in cooperation with different organizations is celebrating Qatar National Environment Day on February 29 with a series of activities including workshops, photo walk, ballet and African performances, farm cleanup, and more.
