In a post on its official Twitter account, the Ministry of Interior announced that "His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani honored Abdul Rahman Atiq Al-Shammari, in recognition of his efforts to save young girls from drowning in Al Maroona Beach."

Abdul Rahman Atiq Al-Shammari and other young Arabs helped save six Qatari girls from drowning. The incident happened at Al Maroona Beach and was reported by Al Sharq newspaper last June 28.
According to the report, the young Qatari rushed to save the girls as soon as he saw the incident along with the other youth present on the beach. In an audio message that circulated on Twitter, the mother of the six girls, Mrs. Umm Nouf expressed her gratitude to the Qatari, Tunisian, Moroccan, and other young people as well as the doctor who happened to be present at the beach at that time, for rescuing her daughters. The others who helped were Muhammad Al-Kaabi, Muhammad al-Dulaimi, Doctor Nadia, Ali Hudaib, and Ahmed Afaneh.
