The General Directorate of Traffic has launched its annual back to school awareness campaign covering several schools in different parts of the country.

The campaign aims to spread the traffic culture among students and raise awareness of traffic ethics and rules and encourage teachers to promote the traffic behaviours of school students. Publications with tips and guidance are distributed.

The campaign also aims to strengthen the foundations and requirements of traffic safety for students as they begin the new school year, to avoid them and protect them from wrong traffic behaviours for their safety.

Assistant Director-General of Traffic Colonel Nasser Dorman Al Hajri said he is delighted that the students were celebrating the return to school, through a comprehensive awareness plan in all areas of the country in an aim to provide the necessary guidance and requirements to enhance awareness of the values of traffic safety.

He added that awareness programs for school students continue throughout the school year, covering all regions of the country, and include all categories of students, within the framework of cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

The campaign comes within the framework of the strategic plan of the General Directorate of Traffic, which aims to establish awareness of traffic safety among all segments of society to reduce accidents, deaths, and injuries resulting from them.

Through the Traffic Patrols and Investigation Department, the directorate is working to ensure the smooth flow of traffic in all roads, to face any possible traffic jams especially in the surrounding roads leading to schools, along with roundabouts and light intersections to ensure that students arrive on time.

Traffic Awareness Officer at the General Directorate of Traffic Captain Abdel Wahed Gharib Al Anzi said the campaign includes field visits to several schools and kindergartens to raise traffic awareness and provide safety tips and guidance for school students, such as safe ways to ride and get off buses and cars safely.

He added that starting from next week, the annual awareness plan for school and university students will start by organizing several awareness meetings and lectures for different age groups to familiarize with the requirements of traffic safety and safe driving methods in line with the age groups of students.
