If you haven't heard of the Anooki, now's your chance to get to know them. These two Inuit-inspired characters can be found in Education City for a limited time. Why are they here? These adorable characters aim to spread the message: our planet is precious.
The two characters are the brainchild of two French designers, David Passegand and Moetu Batlle. With their house melted by global warming, the two characters are now running around the world and discovering different cities, according to David Passegand. The Anooki aims to educate people about the importance of protecting our planet and the need to take part in building a more sustainable world.
“Everywhere they go, because they are joyful and full of hope, they play. Every new place is like a new playground – it’s a game, but a game inspired by the issue of global warming. It’s a fun and accessible way of telling the story about global warming and climate change issues."
The fragility of the materials used to build the Anooki represents the fragility of our world, he added.
Kids and adults will get to enjoy a night-time immersive light and sound show that takes place at Penrose House (LAS Building). The building's facade is the Anooki's playground here in Doha as they sing, dance, tell their story and make people think about how they can contribute to the fight against climate change.
The giant inflatable Anooki installations can also be found at the following locations:
There are guided tours that take place every 20 minutes between 6 pm to 11 pm until February 21, 2021.
Download the Education City app and pre-register for a guided tour, as the timeslot is open to no more than 60 people with a maximum of 15 people on each guided tour. Precautionary measures like social distancing, wearing a face mask, temperature checks, and showing the green status on Etheraz app are required for visitors of the event.
