Locals have complained of “unreasonable and unjustifiable” hike in fish prices at Al Khor fish market, local daily Arrayah reported yesterday.
They told the daily that the hike could be mostly attributed to the fact that sub-contractors manipulate the rental rates of the shops at the market.
According to them, usually a shop is given for QR2,000 a month by the municipality.
“Those who take the shops on rent, later rent it out again for QR5,000-QR7,000 a month, which considerably contributes to the hike in the fish prices,” a citizen told the daily while urging that the authorities concerned should exercise stricter control in monitoring the
market.
