The ‘6th Fresh Local Dates Festival 2021’ will begin in Doha next week at Souq Waqif and will be open everyday for two weeks from 4 pm to 10 pm. Over 80 farms are lined up for participation at this annual event, according to The Peninsula Qatar.

The aim of the festival organised by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment is to develop the agricultural sector through palm tree farms and support local farmers in producing different varieties of quality dates which they can market during the dates harvesting season.

The criteria set by the festival's Organizing Committee for the fresh dates that will be on sale at Souq Waqif, is that they should be in the ripening stage, should have a natural taste and smell, and should not have any odour.

A number of different date varieties like the Khalas, Al Shishi, Al Khanizi, Barhi, Iraqi, Silji, Sufri, Nabt Saif, Al Sawafi and Khurdi will be available during the festival at reasonable prices.
