If you don't know Hakassan, let me tell you, not only is this restaurant a stylish and sexy setting for fine dining, their food is actually one of the best that you will find in Doha in terms of taste, quality and presentation. The resident International Executive Chef Ho Chee Boon has some serious skills! It is a pricy venue, that is worth every single Riyal.
We recently had the pleasure of tasting their special Chinese New Year menu celebrating the Year of the Monkey (which happens to be my year). If you haven't done so already, I urge you to go try that exclusive limited edition menu before the 22 February when the celebration will end. I guarantee you will continue to crave those dishes for months to come (I still am!). Here are some of the things that you would expect:
I had come from a long day at work and the Double-boiled Ginseng and Chicken Soup was the perfect introduction to a relaxing and soulful culinary evening. It was healthy, wholesome and you could tell it was made from the best fresh ingredients. This menu has a variety of options, but one of my favorites is the Pipa duck. Duck is tricky, and Hakkasan is one of the very few places that I've been to who know how to handle duck.
The Grilled Chilean seabass in honey was exceptional, and my plus one thought that too. It's one of those dishes, that when you hear the name and you know it's fish, skepticism begins to kick in, until you actually take a small bite, and another, and another, until the plate's been wiped clean. They also had a really nice dessert called The Golden Halo, needless to say, it was divine.
At the end of the dinner, we were invited to share our hopes for the coming year by writing our wishes on gold ribbons and hanging them in the restaurant, and we were given another lovely souvenir, which I will not reveal.
Try it and let us know what you think.
