Vodafone Qatar and Qatar Toastmasters Club recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Platinum Sponsorship of the youth public speaking contest, Qatar Open. The annual competition is hugely popular among the high school student community, and aims to nurture the youngsters’ public speaking skills.

Qatar Open is organized by Qatar Toastmasters Club, a pioneer Toastmasters club in Qatar, affiliated with Toastmasters International (TI). TI is a leading global non-profit organization headquartered in California that is dedicated to the development of communication and leadership skills of adults and children. Qatar Toastmasters Club has helped transform many aspiring youth speakers and leaders.

The preliminary round of the contest will be held on 27th March and the semi-finals on 17th April, both at the Birla Public School. The Grand Finale will be held on 8th May at the College of the North Atlantic - Qatar (CNA-Q).

Vodafone Qatar is part of one of the world’s largest telecommunications groups, the Vodafone Group. Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Qatar, Kyle Whitehill, took the opportunity to highlight the value of the Qatar Open and its mission: “We’re delighted to sponsor this annual competition for the youth owing to its significance in reinforcing these skills that are important for them to be more accomplished and influential leaders. It is young people who are the cornerstone of Qatar’s 2030 development vision. Harnessing their passions, ambitions and creativity in every aspect of their lives will play a key role in realising that vision. We wish all contestants the best of luck and we look forward to hearing them speak at the 18th Qatar Open.”

Chief Coordinator for the Qatar Open, Nevine Kamel, said, “It makes perfect sense to have Vodafone as our Platinum Sponsor for this event since both organizations promote communication. Vodafone’s significant contribution towards an event of this magnitude will be invaluable to the entire community, and demonstrates its firm commitment to realizing the national aspirations of Qatar. We are deeply grateful to Vodafone for their generous support.

Due to the overwhelming response we received from schools, online registrations were closed two months ahead the preliminary round. For the first time many independent schools have come forward with contestants.”

Qatar Toastmasters Club President, Rukhsana Khan, who is also the Sponsorship Chair for the event, added, “As part of our community service activity, and in keeping with the principles and national strategy embodied in the Qatar National Vision 2030, we continue to host the Qatar Open every year. Public speaking is a means of developing and enhancing human potential because it provides a platform for confident self-expression. It empowers Qatar’s students to achieve their aspirations and equips them with vital skills to contribute to society. We are training today’s youth to face communication and leadership challenges of tomorrow. Vodafone Qatar is an ideal partner for an event like this and we are thrilled to have them on board. We and all our sponsors wholeheartedly support the QNV 2030 pillars of human and social development.

You can see the young orators in action on Friday 8th May. Entry is free, but please RSVP to [email protected].
