Vodafone Qatar is gearing up for the upcoming ITU Telecom World 2014, set to be held in Doha, Qatar from the 7th till the 10th of December at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC). The company will be addressing smart cities solutions and debating related trends with a number of industry experts who will join from around the world to share perspectives on the future of the ICT industry.

In line with its focus on IoT and on unleashing the power of smart connectivity to improve life and business, Vodafone will be displaying its renowned M2M technologies that are already used both locally and globally. Amongst such technologies are integrated healthcare solutions, solar panel energy monitoring and others. Vodafone will also be unveiling a latest innovation which has never been launched locally before.

Additionally, Vodafone Qatar will be represented on Wednesday, the 10th of December by George Galica, Head of Managed Services, who will sit on the IoT panel, moderated by Mr. Charles Brookson, Director, Azenby, United Kingdom, with other leaders of the field including: Mr. Timothy S. Ellam, Partner, McCarthy Tetrault LLP, Canada, Mr. David Rogers, Chief Executive Officer, Copper Horse Solutions Ltd, United Kingdom, Dr. Angelika Plate, Director of Strategic Security Consulting, Help AG, United Arab Emirates and Mr. Barry Greene, Chief of IP Engineering and New Technologies, PT Smartfren Telecom (Indonesia).

The Internet of Things promises us a connected world, with energy savings, medical implants and monitoring smart cities and intelligent transport. It can also be used to monitor individuals, and groups, and can be used to disrupt or attack infrastructure. This panel will look at these challenges, and if these threats are real, and discuss what we should be doing to defend ourselves.

Under the central theme of Future in Focus, World 2014 will explore how disruptive developments in technology, business and society are transforming the ICT industry – and examines potential scenarios of the future.

From the exclusive Leadership Summit to the interactive panel sessions, keynotes and workshops of the four-day Forum, World 2014 aims at equipping attendees with an understanding of how the future might look, the strategies, policies, models and markets to consider.

The event will bring the insight of world-class experts, the benefit of knowledge-sharing and best practice across nations and regions, and a unique mix of perspectives from public and private sector, developed and emerging markets.

Vodafone Qatar joined ITU earlier this year as a sector member in ITU’s Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T), which assembles experts from around the world to develop standards and protocols for the global information and communication technologies (ICT) industry.

With credentials of the world leader with over 20 years in Machine to Machine (M2M) technology, Vodafone Qatar is perfectly placed to strongly contribute to smart cities initiative and standards and bring much needed expertise from the heart of a country that is becoming one of the most connected places in the world.
