Two new fuel stations will open at old Ghanam and Al Thamid areas this month, the Qatar Fuel Company (Woqod) said yesterday.

Another fuel station near Hamad International Airport will also open soon. All the three stations are ready and equipped with necessary facilities.

Four new locations have been earmarked for mobile fuel stations in Al Saad, Rawdat Al Khail, Jalia (Qatar University) and Al Gharrafa. They will be operational this month.

“Woqod is all set to open ten new fuel stations across the country by the end of this year. Some of them will be open this month as they are ready. And works are in full swing on several other fuel stations that are expected to be ready by the end of this year,” said Ibrahim Jaham Al Kuwari, CEO of Woqod, in a statement.

Works on three fuel stations are about to finish and they will open next month. They are located in Meshairib on Al Rayyan road, Al Masham (north of Al Wukair), old Al Rayyan in front of Al Besat Al Akhdar project.

It is expected to complete eight other new fuel stations in December, this year. They are located in Al Muntaza, south of Al Wakra (on Mesaeed road), Al Shmal city, Abu Nakhla (on Salwa road), Wadi Aba Salil, Al Wukair, Al Khor and Lusail.

Four fuel stations are under construction in Umm Ghuwailina, New Salata, Al Thumama, Jabl Thialib and Lusail city and they will be completed next year.

Seven other fuel stations are being designed before tenders for construction are invited. The projects will begin in the first quarter of 2017.

Woqod is coordinating with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment for allotment of new locations to provide mobile fuel stations. It was agreed initially to allot 34 new locations. However, the other governmental departments concerned are being coordinated for necessary approval.

The existing fuel stations witness crowding due to shortage of fuel stations and an increase in number of vehicles that hit the road this year, said Al Kuwari.

Nine private fuel stations were closed in the past and as a result the existing facilities came under tremendous pressure. So Woqod sped up to complete several fuel stations this year following the directive issued by the government to ease the suffering of motorists who want refuel their vehicles.

To reduce crowding at existing fuel stations, Woqod provided mobile fuel stations in Al Wakra, Al Wukair, Al Kharara, Sealine, Al Shamal city. The mobile fuel station could be set up easily and move from one place to other. (Source)
