Tweet 1 million views circulating manchester united takeover qatar fake

On 9 June 2023, rumours were circulating on social media about a takeover of Manchester United by Qatar's H.E. Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jaber Al Thani.

The tweet, currently showing over 1.3m views was created by a fake Twitter account named @FabrizioRomanax. This is not the real Fabrizio Romano, an Italian journalist.

The fake tweet mentions:

The Glazer family have accepted Sheikh Jassim Bid, Manchester United will be officially bought by Qatari! Sheikh Jassim’s £6bn valued bid for Manchester United has been accepted. Full takeover Process will now take place, terms and agreements will be next.

Romano is known for his well-informed football knowledge and is often regarded as a reliable source for football transfers.

On 7 June 2023, as per a report by ESPN, Qatar's H.E. Sheikh Jassim submitted a fifth bid to buy Manchester United. As per sources to ESPN, this will be his last offer and it will not be a part of the process beyond 9 June 2023. There is no official announcement regarding the Qatar takeover.

This is not to say that, in the upcoming days, we won't hear any potential news about the Qatar takeover. Stay tuned for the official announcement as soon as we can share.
