This week, we're featuring an upcoming app in Qatar called Therappy and we reached out to its founders, Noof Almahmoud and Najla al Kuwari, to know more about Therappy.
"Therappy is an app with a secure online platform for psychological therapists who help those facing life’s challenges by providing easy, affordable, and private access to professional counselling. Therappy facilitates video sessions, voice calls, messages, and live chats that let people get the help they need using their smartphone — anytime, anywhere."
One of the co-founders, Noof shared with us how the app and its name came to be:
We’re two women who fell under the challenges and stress of new motherhood, and when we turned to look for help we found very few - and sometimes hard to reach - sources. So we dedicated our time to look for a solution to make psychological counseling accessible with several options even ones beyond our geographical limits, and from the privacy and comfort of one's home (it is very hard to leave home when you have a baby!) and so, Therappy was born! (yes, pun intended).
The name Therappy is a combination of Therapy + application.
Therappy is very easy to use. The app enables therapists to reach customers and gives users an array of choices for therapy. Therappy is the only psychological counseling app that offers an all-in-one solution for both therapists and people in need of counseling. Noof added that the platform also provides the option of text, audio, or video counseling with the highest standards of privacy. You can book, pay for, and have the online session on the app without needing any outside services or transactions!
The app caters to both the therapists and people seeking therapy.
When asked how it'll help the people of Qatar, Noof said that
"there are many reasons preventing people from seeking help for mental health challenges, especially in Qatar where everyone seems to know everyone. The stigma of getting therapy is still present in our society; and their concern for privacy could stop them form healing."
The app is in the latest stages of development and the team is hoping to release the app very soon.
"It took a lot of hard work and effort to get to where we are and we're very proud of our progress so far,"
When asked about the challenges in starting a new company, she believes that building the team and the company is the hardest stage and that it's important that you choose the right people to work with.
We also asked them what is their advice for young entrepreneurs who are interested in establishing startups of their own and this is what they have to say:
Don’t wait until you are 100% ready, start and learn as you go!
According to the Therappy team, they have big plans in store for the platform. Users should expect additions and improvements responding to their needs every step of the way!
