By Fatma creates unique and funky cultural designs on various gift items. By designing personalized mugs, bags, cards, and gift boxes, By Fatma has tapped into a unique segment of the industry that’s very in-demand.
This one-of-a-kind startup was founded in 2008 by Fatima Abdulla Al-Kuwari. She holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar (VCU-Q).
“I started designing for By Fatma in 2008 for my family and friends for their special occasions like greeting cards and wedding invitations,” Al-Kuwari said. “In 2010 after gaining the confidence to be in public, I started designing for the public by offering special packaging for Garangaoo (mid-Ramadan kids celebration). Back then I sold 10,000 favor boxes in 3 days via Facebook and Flickr.”
By Fatma participated in a number of local exhibitions in Qatar during Ramadan and Eid. She aims to make special occasions even more special with her products.
“I have clear vision to create a Qatari lifestyle brand that reflects all the values of the Qatari heritage such as giving, generosity, creativity, caring, and elegance,” Al-Kuwari said.
Al-Kuwari also added that her business is not only targeted at Qataris. She shared that the gifts she creates also use words and phrases in Arabic, such as in greeting cards. “… I want those words to be used by many people. It’s also a way to teach non-Qatari people the wonderful side of the Qatari language.”
