Qatar Shell celebrated the graduation of 26 employees from the Shell Graduate Programme (SGP), applied consistently across the globe, which included 22 Qatari nationals. The Shell Graduate Programme is designed to offer fresh graduates the training, development and support they need as they establish their professional careers within the company. The duration of the programme is three to five years, depending on the individual’s career path. Graduates who have successfully completed the program worked collaboratively with a diverse group of Shell colleagues from around the world on challenging projects to help develop their leadership skills. The graduates come from a variety of disciplines, including technical, commercial, corporate and business.

Rob Sherwin, General Manager of Corporate Affairs and Deputy Country Chair at Qatar Shell, said: “I’m delighted that 22 Qatari nationals are among the graduates who have met Shell’s rigorous global standards in the past few years of their career. I’m particularly grateful to their managers and mentors who have provided the coaching necessary to provide these young leaders for the next phase of their careers.”

At Qatar Shell, we think of developing all of Qatar’s resources - people as well as hydrocarbons. This is critical if we are to be the energy partner of choice for the State of Qatar. The Shell Graduate Programme plays an important role in helping some of our brightest and most talented graduates early in their careers to prepare them to take on leadership roles.”

For participants, the programme helps build their leadership competencies and skills, exposes them to real business challenges from which to learn, and provides guidance on how to improve their current performance. Other benefits include experience working in a team to deliver results and establishing a global professional network.

The Shell Graduate Programme encourages participants to demonstrate a commitment to Shell’s core values of honesty, integrity, and respect for people. In addition, they are expected to champion the company’s five behavioural imperatives that are considered key to business success. These behaviours include having an external focus and a commercial mind set, as well as maintaining a focus on delivery, speed and simplicity.

Yousef Saleh, Qatarization Champion and General Manager at Qatar Shell Research and Technology Center stated: “Shell provides challenging experiences to young professionals early in their careers in order to sharpen their leadership skills and accelerate their development. Supporting local talent and grooming future leaders helps us fulfil our aspirations to become the employer of choice for Qatari nationals.”

Qatar Shell’s efforts to become the employer of choice are premised on a clear vision that emphasizes Qatari nationals a greater proportion of leadership positions in Shell’s operations in the country over time. This is supported by employing and developing Qatari staff at all levels throughout the organization, which also aligns with one of the main pillars of Qatar’s National Vision - developing human capital. As of this year, Qatar Shell employs around 300 Qataris who serve at all levels of the company across all of technical and non-technical positions.
